In this tutorial you'll learn about drop shadows, inner shadows, layer blur, and background blur. Drop shadows are used to give the impression that the element is raised or floating above the background, while inner shadows are used to apply inner depth to a layer or object. Layer blur blurs any object or layer on which it is applied, and background blur blurs any layer or object that's underneath the layer. Finally, inner glow and outer glow effects can be created by using shadows with the blend mode set to screen.
